Stumbling across a place like Chacala… so cool, but entirely unknown to me and our crew, got me to thinking about real explorers like Tasman and Cook. Wondering what it felt like when they stumbled across spots like Fiji, and Hawaii. Like us, they obviously didn’t discover the place… there were already people there.
But can you imagine how incredible an island paradise would seem after being stuck on one of those leaky little crappy boats filled with stinky dudes? That got me to thinking about the countless other amazing places that I’ve never heard of and would likely never see. And that got me to thinking about how our quest for certainty and security has led to things like Trip Advisor which will basically ensure that the lesser known places will stay lesser known… at least until they get enough good reviews.
After taking us paddle boarding AND feeding us (no small undertaking) a delicious home cooked meal of fish tacos, our friends in Chacala, Brian and Debbie invited us to Debbie’s 29th birthday party. There was going to be a “special guest”.
This of course put Wyatt in full planning mode.
The expat / traveller crowd attended in full force. We met some really great people… and had many really interesting conversations. It was the most english I’d heard… and used in months.
Much to Kaila’s delight there were kids galore.
Then the special guest arrived… The Donald himself! He was actually a pretty social guy… but I thought he’d be taller… and the hair… it’s not real.
He was pretty good natured too. Even letting the party goers string him up. But I think he misunderstood their intentions because he looked awfully nervous when the stick came out.
He seemed to be saying that it was all a misunderstanding… that he actually really likes women… and Mexicans. But the crowd wasn’t listening now.
Never one to be left out, Kaila got in on the action too.
Ultimately the pressure proved to much and The Donald pretty much fell apart. But it turns out that under that stiff, cardboard like exterior is a muy dulce guy… if you catch my drift.
